CEO’s Commit to Social Media Marketing, Now!

Social media is the new marketing

This morning I had an opportunity to get on the phone with Liz Strauss and Lorelle von Fossen. I asked for their feedback on an idea I had last year. Liz drilled down to the weaknesses immediately.

Then Lizs’ Skype crashed.

While we were waiting, Lorelle began to grill me on my marketing plans. I fell back on my old habits when Lorelle pushed me for an answer. She said my answers were “old marketing” and Lorelle was right.

Internet marketing now social and simply mirroring life.

I had arrived to the same conclusion a few weeks ago, then promptly did nothing and forgot about it. Don’t make the same mistake. Get into action today!

Socializing IS Marketing

CEO’s listen up. Networking and socializing has always been time consuming. What is new, is that its never been this efficient.

We owe a debt of gratitude the developers of WordPress, Twitter, and Facebook. If your company and business development people are not utilizing social media tools, you’re missing out on reaching a market ripe for the picking.

Free Your People

Give your people license to begin socializing and networking using social media applications like WordPress, Facebook, Twitter (to name a few). Talk to your IT department and tell them to open up and do what’s needed to allow your people to connect with the world using social media tools.

Expect it to be time consuming. Just like networking in person, it will be rewarding and productive. Just give them time to adjust to the new networking metaphor.Take time to acclimate to social media, plan, and then get some help.

Training Helps

I would recommend investing in some courses and training for yourself and your people. Liz or Lorelle can create a custom training program or you can get into either Rick Butts’ Twitter Squezze program or Mori Smiths’ Facebook for Professionals.

I get nothing for mentioning these programs and people other than knowing I connected you with the best.

That was a great conversation, and it was a fantastic two-way conversation, Greg. We may have snapped your brain around, but you also shook our business-thinking world.

There is a lot changing in how business works, especially the impact of the social world of the web. I’m so glad you are helping the business world and CEOs within it to change their thinking and embrace this new marketing world.

    Thanks!

    Ah Greg!
I so enjoyed the conversation. It’s nice to get good brains together talking through things. Thanks for letting me be a part. I think we all learned a lot from what you brought and what we talked about. :)
