I am Allergic to Social Media Assholes

Do not watse a CEO\'s time

I joined Rick Butts Twitter Squeeze Page course and the first thing I did was to follow about 60 people. A little more than half replied with a thank you and followed me back.

About five said thanks with a PDF download. One of them, who I will just refer as the “asshole” said thanks with a link, a damn affiliate link - to Mike Filsaime. So I listened to the video and opted in for the free offer, this when it all began.

Note: Rick Butts is not responsible for this, just one of the members in his program. Rick is a stand up guy from what I know of him. Please, don’t do this type of shady promotion.

I had heard of Mike Filsaime but was not familiar with any of his work. I figured this would be a great time to get some info on the guy and learn something. What a big assumption I made.

What I never expected was to be up sold, down sold, pitched to buy his software, audios, videos etc. I spent a frickin’ hour trying to get to my download links. Argh!! My biggest beef is with the person who initially sent me a thank you for following them in Twitter and did not disclose an affiliate link.

I personally find Mike Filsaime’s approach obnoxious, not to mention wasting my time, it must work because the guy is doing it and is one of the more well known and successful online marketers. I should have known better once I realized it was an affiliate link. I should have run for the hills. At least the view would have been better and no assholes!

What do you think of this type of marketing practice?

    Bang on.

Some people just don’t get it - they drop a link before you even get to know and trust them.

I love these link losers. I love spammers too.

    Why?

Just imagine the competition if these people used their energy and resources to market themselves the right way…

Unfortunately social media will expose them quicker and they’ll realize it, so it means us good guys need to work harder to make money :)

Peter, you make a great point, “Just imagine the competition if these people used their energy and resources to market themselves the right way…”

Sometimes they just make it easy for us, sometimes hard. I am sensitive to having my time wasted.

    Good overcomes evil. ;-)
