Promoting Obscure Products

Jeff Pulver asked a question on Twitter if anyone had ideas for promoting a product called Vibe Away. I suggested Seesmic after watching the You Tube video.

Video has always been a killer strategy for demonstrating and explaining a new product. I just witnessed this a week or so ago when Batter Blaster was profiled on Seesmic.

Where Seesmic becomes really powerful is the social aspect. You are able to provide a multimedia experience in a social network which if successful provides strong word of mouth.

So, if you need to take a product from obscure to credible in a short amount of time, try the social route and get involved in Seesmic.

Word to the wise. Just like any other community they do not appreciate blatant self promotion by strangers. Get to know people, build relationships with people who are thought and crowd leaders.

Give them a sample of the product to try for themselves. Build a relationship and if you are lucky you might end up with a fan. Who knows, they might be willing to help you get the word out?!

Remember, respect the community. Do not spam them otherwise you will just do your brand more harm than good.
